Submarine base and Sailing Centre
The former Keroman submarine base, a huge Second World War concrete block, is now a hub for ocean racing. There you can visit the Éric Tabarly Sailing Centre, a modern museum devoted to the great sailor, and get close to legendary yachts, from the Pen Duick to the IMOCA fleet. A date for those who love salty air and tales of oceans crossed.
Keroman, a lively fishing port
In the early morning, the Keroman fishing port, one of France’s largest, wakes to the ballet of trawlers. Guided tours and the fish auction let you discover this fascinating world. The visit extends with a seafood platter in one of the port restaurants. Sharing a plate of oysters and a glass of Muscadet in Lorient is already a kind of declaration to the ocean.
Interceltic, beaches and Groix
Every August, the Interceltic Festival turns Lorient into a Celtic capital: pipe bands, dances, concerts, packed bars. The rest of the year, the beaches of Larmor and the lanes of the Île de Groix, twenty minutes away by ferry, offer getaways for two. On Lyad, Lorient locals share their coves and seaside bistros; it is up to you to find someone to board the next ferry.
